Microsoft Mobile Devices Malaysia and Nokia Malaysia officially launched both Lumia 830 and Lumia 735 in Malaysia on September 25th, 2014, at GSC Signature, The Gardens. For reasons unclear to us, the company has decided not to carry the Lumia 730 Dual SIM here. Lumia 830 is priced at RM1,399 and Lumia 735 will be going for RM999. Both will be on sale October 3rd, 2014.
Lumia 830 is what Microsoft/Nokia calls an “affordable flagship”, that even comes with a PureView camera with optical image stabilization. We’ve previously covered this device after it was announced; you can find out more here. Lumia 830 comes in Bright Orange, Bright Green, Black, and White.
Lumia 735 has the highest-resolution front-facing camera ever on a Lumia, at 5 megapixels. It even has the same Snapdragon 400 processor as the Lumia 830, ensuring its performance isn’t affected even though it’s a lower-cost device. Lumia 735 has LTE, and it comes in Bright Orange, Bright Green, Dark Gray, and White. Read more about it here.
Bruce Howe, General Manager for Microsoft Mobile Devices Sales for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, was there at the launch event and he said, “With the announcement of Lumia 830 and Lumia 735, it’s an exciting time for Lumia smartphones in Malaysia. Our strategy is to help people do more with stunning products that unite and showcase the best of Microsoft’s digital work and life experiences. These fabulous Lumia devices combine powerful Microsoft services such as Skype, Microsoft Office, and OneDrive with amazing innovations in design and imaging to showcase best of Microsoft’s experiences at an affordable price.”
To celebrate the release of both smartphones, Microsoft Mobile Devices whipped up some special deals for Malaysians:
- Lumia 830: The first 500 customers to purchase this device at a Nokia Store will get a one-year subscription of Microsoft Office 365 Home worth RM249.99. It contains Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access, Publisher, 1TB OneDrive storage, and Skype PC-to-phone world calling. An Office 365 Home license can be used on 5 PCs or Macs, plus 5 iPads or Windows tablets.
- Lumia 735: This device can be pre-ordered through Lazada.com.my for a 10% discount. StoreKini.com is also taking pre-orders with savings up to RM500. If the pre-order was done at Nokia Stores, there will also be a free Coloud Knock WH 520 headphones worth RM99 for every purchase of the Lumia 735.

During the launch last week, Microsoft Devices also partnered with Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) to release the GSC app for Windows Phone 8.1. This version is a long time coming, as the GSC app was only available on Android and iOS previously. This new GSC app allows moviegoers to easily book movie tickets, and manage their bookings, directly from a Windows Phone.
Heng Beng Fatt, Deputy General Manager of Golden Screen Cinemas, said, “A cinemagoer’s experience begins with the first touch point during ticket booking. With the Windows Phone gaining popularity, we were keen on developing a GSC Mobile app on this platform to give our users a seamless ticket booking experience. The new mobile app will debut with a host of exciting news features such as payment through credit cards, convenient showtimes listing, and the utilization of Live Tiles, where users can get an instant glance of the latest movie screenings at GSC. We are confident that moviegoers can enjoy a more seamless ticket booking experience with the new GSC Windows Phone app.”
